The New Village School of Italy offers
the unique combination of a TEFL certification program with an intensive Italian language
course . Our
students will acquire the professional knowledge and skills that are critical
to successfully teach English to speakers of another language. By taking the course in Italy, you will develop a cross cultural awareness that will assist you in your teaching
experience. Through daily Italian
language classes, you will also confront the challenges of learning a foreign
language, challenges that your students will face as well. You will be given the opportunity to play
the role of both student and teacher, thus refining your skills in both
aspects learning and training. |

WHY TEFL?
ON A
PERSONAL LEVEL: Becoming an English teacher will not only
be a challenging and rewarding opportunity in itself, but also a means toward
attaining your other goals. It gives you an opportunity to stay longer if you want more than a superficial
tourist's view of a country by supporting yourself through teaching.
Taking a TEFL course will also enable those interested in a teaching
career to get some first hand experience in the field before embarking in graduate school.

culture and language.
ON A PROFESSIONAL LEVEL: If you choose to teach English overseas, your
professional background will be greatly enhanced since most Companies and Graduate Schools value international
experience and the knowledge of one or more foreign languages. People who have
lived overseas, and in addition have learnt a another language, are able to
offer an international perspective and awareness that is a significant advantage
in
the professional world. Whatever your ultimate career interests are, the
knowledge and cultural awareness gained by living and working in another part of
the world will be invaluable asset in the long-term.
THE TEFL
PROGRAM
The TEFL Program is a 4 week, full-time course that meets
Monday through Friday, for a total of 80 hours of instruction. The mornings
are dedicated to teaching techniques and strategies; the late afternoons to
practical teacher training through demonstrations, mock teaching sessions, and
feedback. The TEFL certificate is awarded upon successful completion of the
program, along with an assessment and reference from our school.
THE
ITALIAN LANGUAGE PROGRAM
As an affiliate of the Dante Alighieri Institute, our TEFL program offers you an opportunity to
learn Italian at any level. Upon acceptance in TEFL, you are tested for your written Italian language
ability. Once in Italy, you are tested again for your oral Italian language
ability and assigned a class based on your skill level. Students are given 2
hours of Italian language instruction for 4 weeks, Monday through Friday. The course will take place in the early afternoon. Upon
successful completion of the course, students are awarded a separate Italian language
Diploma. This course alone is equivalent to a semesters' worth of Italian in an
American University.
COURSE EXPECTATIONS
Our TEFL
program is intensive, challenging and demanding. In 4 weeks you will have had to
gain a great
deal of knowledge and use this to create coherent lesson
plans to teach to ELF (English as a Foreign Language) students. You will have
to cope with considerable demands on your time and energy, as the pace of the
course requires endurance. However, the benefits acquired by training in a foreign country,
especially Italy, which is reputed to be one of the most beautiful and
vibrant country in the world for art, culture and entertainment are immense.
