Elementary

Course Objectives: This course is an introduction to the Italian language. You will learn the basic Italian vocabulary, the structure of simple phrases and the basic verb tenses. You will acquire the sound, musicality and intonation of the Italian language.

At the end of the course you should be able to:

·        engage in brief conversations on everyday topics;

·        use basic phrases apt to satisfy basic needs.

·        introduce yourself and others;

·        pose questions;

·        answer questions related to personal details such as address, people you know, things you own.

·        interact in a simple manner as long as the person interacting with you is speaking slowly and clearly.

Pre Intermediate

Course Objectives: In this course you will further develop skills in speaking, understanding, reading and writing contemporary Italian.  Your grammar and vocabulary knowledge is enriched. At this stage you are working on diction and sound so that your understanding capabilities can develop further. 

At the end of the course you should be able to:

·        Understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography);

·        Communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a basic exchange of information concerning familiar, everyday matters;

·        Describe in simple terms aspects or your background, the immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

 

Intermediate

Course Objectives: At this level you are able to use the language more fluently. You feel more confident when speaking and listening. Your diction is clear and if spoken to slowly and clearly you are able to understand most of what is said. You vocabulary at this stage is just sufficient, so you will be adding knew words every day. 

At the end of the course you should be able to:

·        Understand the main points of familiar matters regarding work, school, leisure etc;

·        Deal with most situations likely to arise while traveling in areas where Italian is spoken;

·        Produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest

·        Describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions;

·        Give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

 

Upper intermediate

Course Objectives: At this level you use the language fluently. You feel confident and secure when speaking, listening, writing or reading the language. Your diction and listening abilities are well developed. You can write and read quite easily without the use of a dictionary.

At the end of the course you should be able to:

·        Understand the main ideas of complex text concerning both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in your field of specialization;

·        Interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party;

·        Produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects;

·        explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various opinions.

 

Advanced

Course Objectives: At this level you are using the language almost as if it were your own. You can communicate at any level and can understand native speakers even when the conversation is fast and fluent.

 

At the end of the course you should be able to:

·        understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognize implicit meaning;

·        express yourself fluently and spontaneously;

·        use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purpose;

·        produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing a controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors and cohesive devises.
