INTERNSHIPS AND CO-OPS
TEACHING ENGLISH INTERNSHIPS
1010 TEFL & teaching English
These internships have been designed for those who would like to gain both TEFL theoretical knowledge and hands-on international teaching experience. The New Village School teams up with a great number of Language Schools located all over Italy, to provide the students with both an intensive orientation and teaching English internships for a period of 13-16 weeks. The internships are under the supervision of the hosting Language School Director.
1011 Teaching English
These internships have been designed for those who have already acquired TEFL Certification. The intern will work closely with their supervisor to deliver the teaching to their assigned classroom for a minimum of 16 weeks. Independent teaching English internships are available throughout Italy.

Government
Government
political affairs involves ethics, passion and principles. Three characteristics
which may differ in interpretation from culture to culture. Although the
theoretical aspect fundamentally
remains the same the implementation varies because of the diversification in
tradition, culture and ethnicity.
The
Coop was designed specifically with graduates of political science in mind. The
program focus, not only on all the above, but on making the student
appreciate and understand the diversity in political practices. It offers
the candidate an opportunity to immerse themselves not only in the culture of
foreign country but allows them to see first hand the political and social
structure of that country. The Coop is minimum 14 weeks in duration. Starting
date is every 1st Monday of the month.

Management
Cross
cultural issues are today a reality that engages and concerns all members of the
business world. In order to form a successful
career in management, a candidate must first be aware of all the issues
pertaining to their work in a foreign country.
Working in an unknown country is certainly exciting but it also entices a
great effort to adjust and adapt to a new reality.
This
coop is intended as a preparation to meet the
challenges that they will face in a foreign country. The Coop is minimum
14 weeks in duration. Starting date is every 1st Monday of the month.

Marketing
Globalization
is the most modern word and unquestionably the most used today. However, the
world market is still very diverse. We have seen products launched on foreign
markets flop miserably because of cultural diversities. It can as simple as
brand names that can cause major flops when products are launches
internationally.
This Coop focuses on how marketing strategies and how they are influenced by cultural issues and how a marketing manager must be aware of these difference in order to work effectively and efficiently. The Coop is minimum 14 weeks in duration. Starting date is every 1st Monday of the month.
1004 Journalism
In this co-op Candidates are required to be knowledgeable enough to perform tasks that are conducive to being a good reporter. Candidates will be required to know the methodology behind writing and analyzing press releases. They will be tested on their ability to rank these press releases in order of news worthiness, and their ability to discuss an evaluate the points in order of merit. They may on occasion be asked to accompany an established news reporter on field training, here they will be required to sit and observe and take a copy of notes, which they will compare with their superior when they re-enter into the office. Candidates who opt for a journalism co-op must have the ability to edit news stories to the requirements of their newspaper. So they are required to familiarize themselves with the style and commercial aspects of journalism and be able to discuss and offer a structured and intelligent suggestions based on their observations. They may also be asked to edit or tailor news stories, so they meet the demands and expectations of the target market readers. This Co-op offers candidates a great opportunity to observe, learn and speak about all aspects of journalism, and to understand and appreciate and offer an opinion on the diverse social issues that arise in different cultural environments.
HOSPITALITY CO-OPS
The
Hospitality and Tourism Industry is the fastest growing industry in the world.
According to the World Tourism Organization the world industry creates one new
post every minute. By the year 2010 hospitality and tourism will be the largest
global industry employing more than 328 million people.
The demand for high caliber, well educated, intelligent, enthusiastic staff
already outstrips supply. Qualified supervisory and management personnel with
international experience will literally be global stars and opportunities will
grow exponentially as the rapid increase in hospitality activities create new
developments and new challenges.
1005 Hotel Management
This Co-op focuses on all aspects of hotel management, with equal care and attention given to all sectors of the hotel in which you will conduct your management co-op. It is vital that all candidates who wish to enter into Hotel management, have a strong idea of the structure of the Hotel they wish to manage. It has long been an opinion held among Hotel Professionals that the best and most effective way to do this is to allow a trainee manager the opportunity to work in and experience all sectors of the Hotel industry. It is widely believed that by following this strategy young managers see first hand the problems faced by their departments, and having worked in these sectors are better able to appreciate and resolve the issues that may and frequently do arise. Therefore, the co-op's main aim is to follow the Professional's opinion and give candidates the broadest perspective of the roles and responsibilities encountered within the Hotel industry. Candidates will be asked to familiarize themselves with all working areas of the Hotel from the kitchens where they will hope to learn and understand stock control, waste management and how to plan a staff roster, to Front desk reception where they will encounter the importance of the first impression and the meet and greet philosophy. No matter how menial the task may seem candidates must prepare themselves to work in all sectors of the Hotel, because it is only by working in the environment of your peers can you truly understand and appreciate the type and quality of the work necessary to carry out their tasks. It is through this understanding that great managers are born.
Any candidate who wishes to pursue a career in Hotel management can be assured that they will meet with Stiff competition however they can also be assured that they will be rewarded with a career that is both diverse and challenging.
1006 Hotel Hospitality
Hotel hospitality has long been considered one of the fastest growing sectors of the Hotel industry, with tourism in some countries counting for 50% of the total calculated revenue. It is not surprising that a great influence is placed on the importance of the Hospitality sector. Candidates wishing to pursue a career in Hospitality must be excellent communicators and facilitator as roles in management are diverse, and challenging. Candidates need to know the structure of the Hotel but from a different perspective. Their perspective being that they are directly responsible for bookings, independent or coach tours, organizing of functions, and room allocations. In some cases, depending on size of the hotel, they are the marketing personnel also.
1007 Catering
In this co-op candidates will be presented with the challenge of organizing and structuring a dining room to the dinning requirements of their guests. They will need to have the ability to understand and follow structured seating plans, take and cancel bookings. They will also need to familiarize themselves with the menu, in order to enable them to recommend dishes and to help guests in making their selection. They will have to liaise with the kitchen on matters of ordering of stock and stock control. They will also need to coordinate with the hospitality personnel on matters of proposed functions e.g. dates, times, number of dinners, set or fixed menus. They will also be responsible for the planning and implementing of the weekly staff rote. Candidates who wish to pursue a career in catering must have the following attributes, they must have an open friendly manner and be good communicators, and above all must be courteous and efficient at all times, even in difficult situations.
1012 Tourism
One of the worlds most lucrative industries, it has developed and diversified at an extraordinary pace. Since its infancy in the 70's we as a society have come to understand and genuinely appreciate the importance that tourism has on our infrastructure. We are continuously striving to improve our tourism industry and to attract new interests. Candidates who wish to pursue a co-op in tourism must be aware of all the issues involved in attracting tourism to a region and the effects that tourism has on that region. They must be able to talk competently about tourism campaigns and advertising and marketing material. They must have the ability to sell their region from a tourists point view no matter how un-touristy that area may seem. Candidates opting for a career in tourism need to excellent communicators and have open charismatic personalities.
CHILD MANAGEMENT CO-OPS
1008 Children Tutor
Candidates who are looking to enter this type of co-op need to demonstrate acute social and cultural awareness, they must poses the ability to asses a child's situation and act according to the wishes and desires of the parent, while still caring for and having the child's best interests as their fore most concern. They must carry out their duties without conflict and respond immediately and efficiently to the child's educational needs. Candidates who apply for this type of co-op need to be open and flexible, they must also be motivated and committed to working with young people, as continuity of care is a vital aspect of this type of work.
1009 Summer Camp
Candidate who choose to opt for this particular program will be given the opportunity of working and savoring the diverse culture and history of Italy. While working in a fun and educational environment they will be introduced to the Italian language, and romanced by the flavors and aromas of typical Italian cuisine. Candidates will take on the roles of camp supervisors and will instruct children in English through a variety of fun and educational activities. Candidates who apply for this program must be fun and dynamic and have the ability to work on their own, while still maintaining a team spirit.
